Your work and development

Grow into
client responsibility

Work alongside
executive advisors

Develop into an associate who can own a defined part of a client project, working directly with our executive advisors.

You normally begin with internal work to learn our methods and demonstrate the quality clients expect. Client responsibility grows as your work meets that standard.

Your initial internal assignment

The current plan focuses approximately the first three months on our existing website and AI capabilities. With guidance, you will take substantial responsibility for implementation, testing, and documentation.

This supports our organic growth through a bespoke platform connecting AI agent workflows in a multi-agent architecture. It also develops your ability to assess feasibility, effort, and risk before advising clients.

You remain responsible for understanding and checking AI-assisted work, recognizing its limits, and seeking specialist input when needed.

What you could work on

Client projects may combine strategy, transformation, and technology. Depending on project needs and your readiness, your contribution could include:

  1. 01

    Strategy

Research a market, compare growth options, or test the assumptions behind a business case.

  2. 02

    Transformation

Map a process, identify sources of delay, or help plan and track an operating-model change.

  3. 03

    Technology

Assess an AI use case, prototype a workflow, or compare technology options and their practical risks.

These are illustrative examples, not confirmed project assignments.

How responsibility can develop

As you demonstrate sound judgment and consistent quality, the aim is to take ownership of a defined part of an engagement with increasing independence. Executive advisors remain involved in guiding and reviewing the work.

For those who continue in advisory, this experience can be a foundation for developing toward an executive advisor role over time. It is not a promised outcome of the six-month internship.

The firm behind the opportunity

Senior expertise
in a focused team

Scipio & Partners is an established strategy advisory firm serving Fortune 500 companies and leading businesses. Former MBB professionals and senior operators work in focused teams, with direct senior involvement throughout each engagement.

Our model complements McKinsey, BCG, and Bain, our former employers, with whom we maintain strong professional relationships. We serve mandates that need tier-one expertise in a smaller team.

Strong demand drives our continued growth, including our ambition to advance how management consulting works in the age of AI.

The responsibility behind the standard

Protect the client’s interests
throughout the engagement

Test assumptions, challenge weak recommendations, and speak up about gaps or inconvenient findings. The quality of your analysis, preparation, communication, and follow-through shapes the service clients receive.

The working relationship

What it takes
to work well together

Illustrative AI-generated scene of two colleagues discussing feedback over a notebook
Discussing feedback and agreeing on the next steps

What we ask of you

Check your work, honor commitments, and keep colleagues informed of progress and risks.

Act on feedback from day one, ask useful questions, and disagree thoughtfully. Be willing to change your mind when the evidence changes.

What you can expect

You can expect specific, respectful feedback and room for questions and reasoned disagreement.

Speak openly with your manager about workload, support, and working arrangements. You share responsibility for making the relationship work.

Mistakes, ownership and low ego

When you make a mistake, flag it, help correct it, and act on what you learn. Be comfortable saying “I do not know yet” or “I made a mistake.”

Concealing uncertainty, repeatedly ignoring feedback, or missing commitments without warning is incompatible with this role. Curiosity matters more than status.

Workload and personal boundaries

We assess quality, usefulness, and timely delivery. Urgent deadlines may occasionally require work outside standard hours; quieter periods allow greater flexibility.

Plan ahead and communicate to balance demanding periods. Your private life remains yours, and you need not share personal details or be highly extroverted to belong here.

Clear communication, respect for boundaries, and reliability matter.

Curiosity and commercial responsibility

The people delivering the work also help win it. Interest in business development is essential: you will help understand client needs and shape propositions, proposals, and sales conversations.

Curiosity can show in what you build, study, or practice. Travel is one expression of it, never a requirement.

You should enjoy the work itself, including checking facts, revising slides, and debugging. Prestige alone is unlikely to sustain your interest.

Performance & development

How we assess
your contribution

“As expected” by month six.

We expect you to reach at least this level by the end of the internship. Exceeding it takes outstanding work.

50%of our associates perform
at “As expected.”
Far below expectations

Continuation is at risk.

This is our lowest performance band. The work falls well below the quality standard required for client delivery.

You need to move out of this band by the next review. Remaining at this level normally means leaving the firm.

What this looks like

Address the critical gaps identified in feedback and demonstrate a substantial improvement in the quality of your work.

Below expectations

Make quality consistent.

Some expectations are met, but important gaps remain.

Turn feedback into more reliable work, with fewer avoidable corrections.

What this looks like

Check your reasoning and deliverables before they reach the team.

As expectedSix-month minimum

Meet a demanding standard.

Deliver careful, useful work that meets the expectations of your role.

This is the demanding professional standard we expect you to reach after six months.

What this looks like

Follow through on commitments, check the details, and raise risks while there is time to act.

Above expectations

Make a greater contribution.

Your contribution goes beyond the demanding standard expected of your role.

Strong judgment and initiative make the work more useful to the team and client.

What this looks like

Spot a consequential gap, explain why it matters, and help improve the answer.

Far above expectations

Raise the level of the work.

Your contribution substantially exceeds an already high standard.

Exceptional judgment and execution make a meaningful difference to the outcome.

What this looks like

Anticipate a difficult issue and help the team reach a substantially better result.

Development
beyond six months

Development toward the higher bands usually continues beyond the first six months.

You receive feedback from day one; the detailed assessment framework stays within the team.

A moment to reflect

Would you enjoy
this kind of work?

Reflect on your studies, projects, or work. Your answers are not scored or submitted.

Do I check my work before sharing it?

Think of a time your attention to detail improved the accuracy or usefulness of an output.

Can I learn from a direct challenge?

Recall feedback you acted on, including a moment when you changed your mind.

Would I value internal work as preparation for client projects?

Consider whether you would engage seriously with an internal assignment, such as our website and AI development, to build the judgment and quality standards needed for client work.

Do I investigate how technology works?

Think about something you built, tested or debugged, and what you learned from its limitations.

Can I move an unfamiliar problem forward?

Consider how you structure uncertainty, adapt to changing priorities and ask timely questions.

Am I curious about how work is won?

Reflect on your interest in client needs, proposals, sales conversations and value creation.

Would I raise a quality concern unprompted?

Think of an occasion when you took responsibility for the outcome beyond your assigned task.

Expect variety, close senior coaching, and responsibility in a lean organization. If you want predictable routines or a large formal training program, consider the fit carefully.

Frequently asked questions

Before you

About the work, the move and your next step.

12 questions · 3 topics

The work & learning

What would I work on first?

You normally begin with an internal assignment to learn our methods and demonstrate the quality required for client work. The current plan focuses approximately the first three months on our existing website and AI capabilities.

With guidance, you will build, debug, and test these capabilities. You remain responsible for understanding and checking what you produce with AI.

How do I progress toward client work?

The goal is to become a trusted contributor to client projects, working directly with executive advisors and taking on a defined part of an engagement with increasing independence.

Client exposure grows as you demonstrate our quality standards. Opportunities may include research, analysis, and presentations across strategy, transformation, and technology, depending on project needs and your readiness.

Do I need previous AI development experience?

AI-assisted development, web development, or agent-system experience is a strong advantage. Research the field before applying and be ready to learn rapidly.

Demonstrable technical depth is required. Business knowledge alone does not meet this requirement.

Life in Valencia

Do I need to be based in Valencia?

Yes. You can apply from another country if you already have the right to work in Spain and can relocate to Valencia before starting. This is not a remote role. You will initially work on site, normally for the first two to three months, with continued in-person presence afterward.

How long is the internship, and is it paid?

The commitment is the full six months, with compensation of €1,200 per month. Erasmus+ funding may also be available, subject to university approval and the applicable placement rules.

How does taxation work in Spain?

Your tax treatment depends on your circumstances and tax residency. A six-month internship alone does not determine your status.

Spending more than 183 days in Spain in a calendar year is one residency test; your main economic interests can also establish residency. An applicable tax treaty may resolve residency in two countries.

Spanish tax residents generally pay personal income tax (IRPF) on worldwide income. Nonresidents may owe nonresident income tax (IRNR) on Spanish-source income. An applicable tax treaty may affect the tax treatment.

Check deductions and filing obligations with the Spanish Tax Agency or a qualified tax advisor before budgeting. These notes are general guidance, not a personal tax calculation.

Which languages do I need?

Strong written and spoken English is required. German is a significant advantage for German-speaking engagements, but is not mandatory.

Your application

What academic background are you looking for?

A completed bachelor’s degree is required; current enrollment in a master’s program is preferred. Relevant disciplines include computer science, information systems, business informatics, and engineering.

Other disciplines qualify with demonstrable technical substance.

Do grades or a CV photo affect my application?

We do not screen candidates on university grades. We assess practical reasoning, technical aptitude, communication, ownership, and the ability to learn.

A photograph is not required and will not affect how we assess your application.

What might the selection process involve?

Selection may include an individual, time-boxed take-home assignment and a discussion of your approach. We explain the time commitment, assessment criteria, and permitted tools or assistance in advance.

We assess your reasoning, care, and response to feedback.

I have an offer from McKinsey, BCG, or Bain. Should I choose Scipio?

If you have an offer from McKinsey, BCG, or Bain, our recommendation is to take it.

We have great respect for these firms and their dedicated learning teams. Their substantial investment in structured development and coaching provides an exceptional foundation in strategy consulting.

In our view, Scipio is the next-best alternative for tier-one standards in a more entrepreneurial setting. Expect early ownership, direct partner collaboration, and a role in helping an established advisory business grow.

Can I speak with a former visiting associate?

Yes, you can speak with former visiting associates about the work and coaching before you decide.
