Client context

The business context.

A bank relied heavily on manual, paper-based invoice processing. Managing purchase orders across its existing systems was costly and difficult for users. The program aimed to bring purchasing and invoicing onto a common electronic process.

The technology change depended on suppliers joining the network and business teams using electronic purchase orders consistently. Platform delivery and changes to purchasing behavior needed to progress together.

The work

How the engagement was delivered.

  • Sequence the transition around business adoption

Steered the progression from invoice automation to purchase-order automation on Ariba. Connected the delivery scope with supplier onboarding and the business requirement to use electronic orders and invoices.

  • Coordinate the process and system changes

Aligned procurement operations and technology delivery around the move from the existing SAP order process to Ariba. Kept the integration and usability requirements connected to the intended operating process.

What changed

Electronic processing with lower operating costs.

The program brought purchase orders and invoices onto Ariba, expanded electronic invoicing and reduced outsourced processing costs. Supplier onboarding supported the move away from paper. These were outcomes of the wider implementation, with the independent PMO steering the business and delivery dependencies.
