Client context

The business context.

The distribution function of a technology business was examining changes to its application landscape. Its architecture needed a common representation of the systems already in use and the proposed future arrangement.

The target view needed to show which applications would remain, where new applications were proposed, and which existing systems might be retired. The blueprints needed to distinguish the current landscape from proposals requiring further design and validation.

The work

How the engagement was delivered.

  • Document the current landscape

Prepared a current-state blueprint showing the application landscape and its connections. This established a reference point for comparing the proposed changes.

  • Distinguish the proposed application changes

Prepared a preliminary target blueprint that identified new applications and likely retirement candidates alongside the retained landscape. Marked the proposed additions and likely retirements for further design and validation.

What changed

A preliminary target architecture for further design.

The deliverables were current-state and preliminary target blueprints. They established a common view of proposed additions and likely retirement candidates for further architecture work and validation.
