Client context

The business context.

A mobile operator ran several networks supported by a complex transport infrastructure. Its network operations teams were spending increasing time on repairs and rework, while access costs were rising with data traffic.

Poor-quality information in operational support systems made it difficult to understand network utilization and resolve outages efficiently. The work therefore had to address both unreliable records and the processes that allowed those problems to recur.

The work

How the engagement was delivered.

  • Locate the problems with the greatest impact

Identified data-integrity issues and prioritized them according to their effect on operating performance and cost.

  • Correct data and the way it was maintained

Developed targeted fixes supported by changes to organization, processes and IT tools, rather than treating record cleanup as a one-off exercise.

  • Make prevention part of operations

Defined process responsibilities and accountability to reduce the recurrence of data-integrity problems.

What changed

Lower access costs and improved workforce productivity.

The initiative delivered access-cost savings through the disconnection of underused circuits and closer adherence to supplier contract terms, alongside workforce productivity gains. It also identified unused capacity that could reduce future capital requirements. Faster outage resolution remained an improvement objective, rather than a completed outcome.
