Client context

The business context.

A financial services group had expanded through acquisitions, bringing together banking, investment management and insurance businesses. The resulting mix of operations needed a coordinated approach to information management across the enterprise.

Regulatory projects were already under way. The group needed to identify overlap between them, understand its major information domains and agree how data should be owned and governed. Architecture choices also had to reflect funding and compliance constraints.

The work

How the engagement was delivered.

  • Establish the information baseline

Mapped the major information domains and reviewed the project and compliance portfolio to identify overlaps and coordination needs.

  • Define architecture and ownership together

Developed a group-wide information architecture covering operational data stores, warehouses and reporting, alongside principles for governance, stewardship and information quality.

  • Align the implementation portfolio

Set an implementation approach and coordinated ongoing regulatory initiatives around shared priorities, with risk, finance and IT involved in the decisions.

What changed

Business ownership of data, supported by a shared architecture.

The information strategy gained support across the group. Business ownership was established within data governance, and risk, finance and IT aligned their decisions and implementation plans. Existing compliance initiatives were reoriented around a coordinated approach to information and systems.
